Rotating building at Inselspital, Bern
The Rochadegebäude has four floors, each measuring 990 m². The project used 1,700 tons of building materials and 212 separate modules measuring 3 × 6 meters. When necessary, the modules were combined into larger rooms, particularly for physiotherapy.
The modules are grouped around a two-shaft elevator unit made of monolithic concrete and two stair towers, which provide additional rigidity and the necessary seismic resistance. Part of the structure is mounted on a steel frame, under which there is a passage for ambulances and other service vehicles.
The total implementation period from initial contact to handover was 15 months, including 7 months of construction work on site.
